Taking the Tube

Living in Kew gives me plenty of opportunities for photography, but I also keep this local tube map by my front door as a reminder of how close I am to Central London.

This was made for me by an artist called NunuMagic on Etsy. The keen eyed among you may well notice that I have included one deliberate mistake, by leaving out a station I never stop at, so I can get as far as Embankment on the list of stations.

I can print as far as A3+ at home, but this really needed A2 to show it off so had it printed at a local printer. The addition of an inexpensive frame and it was ready to go on the wall.

Today is time to start putting my new ‘coffee table book’ that is Photographing London into practice, so off we go into town to start to check out some of the suggested locations, whilst taking in some of the Christmas atmosphere. I never know if I am going to come home with shots worth sharing or printing, but I think the only way to capture these moments, is to keep on getting out there and enjoying them.

The best camera we are told, is the one you have with you, so that’s a smartphone for most of us. As well as my trusty little phone, today I have my little Canon 250D with a 50mm f1.8. It is a really light weight combination, with the fixed focal length making you ‘zoom with your feet’. It is not the highest spec camera I own, but have had so much fun with it, with some of my favourite prints on my wall shot using it alongside a ‘kit lens’.

Being an unashamed amateur, I am never limited by the kit. Whatever gets the right shot is considered a win.
